Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 20: In a big support to dairy farmers in four southern districts,Milma’s Thiruvananthapuram Regional Co-operative Milk Producers Union (TRCMPU) has increased the price of milk procured from the societies under it by Rs 5 per litre, with Rs 3 going to the dairy farmers, its Chairman Smt Mani Viswanath said today.
TRCMPU also announced a subsidy of Rs 100 on each bag of Milma cattle feed, sold through its member societies.
Of the additional procurement price of milk, Rs 3.50 will go to the societies and Rs 1.50 credited as their additional share in TRCMPU. The societies will pass Rs 3 on to the farmers, leaving aside 50 paise for its handling expenses.
With this hike, the procurement price of milk will go up to Rs 49.81 per litre.
TRCMPU had in February 2024 disbursed an additional milk price of Rs. 3.50 per litre.
These decisions, which will come into effect from March 2024, were taken at a meeting of TRCMPU Board of Directors. Together, these measures would entail an additional expense of Rs 3.75 crores on TRCMPU.
The farmers will be entitled to the cattle subsidy in proportion to the quantum of milk they pour to the respective societies.
Milk societies and dairy farmers in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts will benefit from the incentives.
