Kochi, 20 January, 2024: NHS Humber and North Yorkshire (ICB- Integrated Care Board) and Aster Medcity, Kochi, Kerala have entered into an MoU to strengthen collaborative efforts aimed at promoting workforce training, academic excellence, and cultural exchanges between the two organizations.
The MoU was signed by Farhaan Yasin, Aster India-Vice president in the presence of doctors at Aster Medcity-Kochi - Dr. Geetha Philips, Director - Academic Affairs Training Programme Director - Internal Medicine Training (UK). Dr. Anup R Warrier- Chief of Medical Services, Dr. V. Narayanan Unni, Advisor, Academics and from Northern Lincolnshire & Goole NHS Foundation Trust- Paul Bunyan, Deputy Director of People, David Sprawka, Head of Employment and Laura Standland, Talent Acquisition Manager and Mike Reeve, Deputy Chief Executive, NAVIGO House, Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire. And Dr.Joji Kuriakose, Consultant Psychiatrist, Navigo, North Lincolnshire.
This strategic partnership marks a significant milestone in international medical education, bringing together Aster Medcity and NHS Humber and North Yorkshire for the first time in history. The collaboration encompasses various aspects of healthcare, education, and research, including the development of joint research projects, exchange programs for teaching and research personnel, student electives, clinical observerships, clinical fellowships and other training opportunities linked to employment. Notably, trainees from Aster Medcity will be directly recruited to both junior and senior levels at specific NHS hospitals without the need for the Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB).

Aster Medcity has been delivering the full UK Internal Medicine Training (IMT) program, including the ePortfolio, since 2017. The program received accreditation from the Joint Royal Colleges of Physicians Training Board (JRCPTB) in 2018, aligning with the rigorous criteria set by the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom. The clinical experience and competencies gained at Aster Medcity are considered equivalent to completing Internal Medicine Training in the UK.
An esteemed member of the visiting team, who also serves as a UK Head of School, commended Aster Medcity as the most impressive Core Medical Training Centre he has ever visited. Since 2017, 59 candidates have enrolled at Aster Medcity, with 26 trainees already entering specialty training in the UK.
