Hexagon donates ventilators worth INR 45 Lakh to Mahavir Hospital

Hexagon donates ventilators worth INR 45 Lakh to Mahavir Hospital

Hyderabad:  Hexagon Capability Center India (HCCI), the largest product development unit of the technology major Hexagon AB in partnership with NASSCOM Foundation, has donated four high-quality ventilator systems worth INR 45 Lakh to Hyderabad based Mahavir Hospital and Research Centre – A part of the Bhagwan Mahavir Memorial Trust. These ventilators will help treat at least 130 of patients in the coming year.

During the COVID outbreak last year, 15% of the patients admitted by the Mahavir Hospital required ventilators. This number rose to 35% this year during the second wave, warranting an urgent need to add to the current ventilator infrastructure at the Hospital.

The turbine-driven, wall gas independent ventilator setups donated are of premium build quality and have been carefully chosen to withstand the test of time.

While supporting employees through the crisis with internal initiatives like oxygen concentrators for employees' usage, and multi-city free vaccination drives for employees and their family members, the need to expand the support to the society at large arose. As a responsible corporate citizen, HCCI has been at the forefront of the fight against COVID ever since. It worked with Tharuni– a city-based NGO, to ensure continued education for children in remote villages by donating internet-enabled tablets and providing training and infrastructure to the teachers and further tied up with Vidhyakansha to cover additional subjects during the pandemic. It also provided Gandhi Hospital - the primary designated COVID hospital in Hyderabad, with 11 ICU beds to help cope with the sudden rise in COVID cases. The company's ESR(Employee Social Responsibility) team also provided medical equipment such as Multipara monitors and ECG machines to Siddipet District Area Hospital.

Speaking about HCCI's commitment towards Hyderabad and its people, Mr. Ballav Mundra, CFO, Hexagon Capability Center India, said, “Since the onset of the pandemic, Hexagon has been making efforts to combat its impact on our employees and communities. As an effort to support the fight against COVID, necessary healthcare infrastructure facilities have been extended to Mahavir Hospital to enhance the readiness for the future. It's a small give-back to the society that supports our talent and infrastructure.”

About 70% of the Mahavir Hospital beneficiaries come from under-served communities. While the hospital charges are much lower than an average private hospital, the people from these communities are given further concessions based on their affordability.

While accepting the donation, Mr. Mahendra Ranka, Chairman, Bhagwan Mahavir Memorial Trust, said, "Ventilators are used for the most critical set of patients that need ICU admission. These patients need the best quality critical care services. ICU care can majorly increase the cost of a patient's recovery. The Hexagon donated ventilators are high-end gadgets that will help the physicians give the best quality care to the patients. Providing these ventilators at Mahavir Hospital helps the underprivileged patients get such high-end facilities at very affordable costs."

The NASSCOM Foundation worked with local communities to identify the right Hospital and its critical needs. It also sourced the ventilators and facilitated the donation.

Thanking HCCI and Mahavir Hospital for their service towards the community, Ms. Nidhi Bhasin, CEO, NASSCOM Foundation, said, "The IT industry has taken the lead in supporting relief measures during the ongoing COVID pandemic across India. Donation of these ventilators underscores this strong continued support from the industry for India’s healthcare infrastructure. NASSCOM Foundation is happy to have facilitated this collaborative partnership and would like to thank both Hexagon Capability Center India and Mahavir Hospital for their commitment towards the community in these difficult times.”

The NASSCOM Foundation, supported by companies from across the industry, has been working tirelessly to provide COVID based support during these challenging times. It has facilitated the creation of two 20 bed hospitals and an oxygen generation plant; donated 255 Oxygen Concentrators, 120 Oxygen Cylinders, 60 ICU Beds and 45 Paediatric ICU Beds, 14 ventilators and other necessary equipment to government and charitable hospitals across the nation. It has distributed over 27,000 COVID Care kits (consisting of government prescribed medicines and essential paraphernalia) across suburban and rural parts of India. It has also started distributing ration kits to over 4700 underserved families stranded due to lockdowns and temporary loss of jobs due to COVID.
