Conference to also feature strong focus on sustainability
Dubai, UAE: Renowned British perfumer Jo Malone CBE will take to the stage at Beautyworld Middle East later this month, detailing her inspirational journey from artisan beginnings to global success as part of the three-day show’s ‘Next in Beauty’ conference.
Malone, who has achieved global success with her Jo Malone London and Jo Loves brands, will be the keynote speaker at the region’s largest international trade fair for beauty, hair, fragrance and wellbeing. Beautyworld ME runs from October 31 to November 2 at Dubai World Trade Centre.
In a one on one conversation with Lauren O’Connell, beauty editor of Cosmopolitan Middle East, Malone, described as an ‘English scent maverick’ will also demonstrate her new ‘Fragrance Tapas’ in-store experience.
“I am so delighted to be in the region and to be sharing my story and creativity,” said Malone, who is ambassador for the UK Department of Industry and Trade’s GREAT campaign which aims to bring the best of the UK to the world. “I love being with lots of like-minded entrepreneurs, learning lots of new things, and I am thrilled to be helping build in this region and excited as to the other places that we will visit! Can’t wait!”

The ‘Next in Beauty’ agenda will examine the innovation, retail solutions, sustainability, market trends, futuristic products, and technology that will drive improvements in business performance and better brand-to-consumer connections, as well as hear forecasts for the MENA region’s beauty and personal care market from Euromonitor International.
Fragrance industry heavyweights such as Antoine de Riedmatten, General Manager of Spain’s Eurofragance, and Xavier Renard, Global Head of Fine Fragrance at Switzerland’s Givaudan, will explore how to build a net positive fragrance industry while another panel will examine the global reach of Middle Eastern perfumery.
Sustainability Rallying Call
Attendees will also hear from Sandhya Sakhuja of India’s Vedic Cosmeceuticals, urging collaboration in ‘Project Responsible Beauty’, a collaborative strategy to encourage the industry to eliminate waste before it is created.
“Cosmetic manufacturers produce more than 120 billion units of plastic packaging annually, from which less than 10 per cent is recycled,” said Sakhuja. “Every year, about 17.6 billion pounds of these single-use packaging materials, bottles, jars, etc, make their way into the ocean. These appalling statistics however have not been completely ignored by the players in the beauty industry. The urgency created around the need for sustainability among consumers leave the industry with no choice but to come up with innovative alternatives to traditional production and packaging processes that harm the environment.
“The widely adopted strategy of ‘reduce and reuse’ is neither sufficiently implemented nor effective enough to make a considerable difference, considering the gravity of the situation currently. It is just prolonging the inevitable of leaving a planet in worse shape than what we got it in. The best way to minimise consumption of plastic is to eventually eliminate it from the equation – eliminate waste before it is created.”
Meanwhile Caroline Bassoni of Association COSMED, the leading network for French SME cosmetic companies, will deliver an overview of the EU’s common cosmetic regulation framework and explore the differences with that of the GCC. The COSMED French Cosmetics Pavilion at Beautyworld Middle East will host nine exhibiting companies, including six never before seen at the event.
The ‘Next in Beauty’ conference will run across all three days of the Beautyworld Middle East show. Other topics to be discussed include Cellular energy and skin health; From London to Dubai | Aesthetics Trend Predictions 2023; and How can we leverage AI to better our industry - A 360 Approach, among others.
