Think Positive and be Happy - Dr. Rakhi Roy, Psychologist

Think Positive and be Happy - Dr. Rakhi Roy, Psychologist

Kolkata, 12th August, 2022: The world is suffering from a severe psychological crisis, due to negative elements, sorrow and sufferings around us. This is aggravated by the ongoing COVID pandemic.

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), WB is organizing an online Lecture Series "Sorrow-Depression-Joy": Season 2, based on what the sages of ancient India and other eminent personalities have told about overcoming this problem. They were truth realizers and this problem was foreseen by them. That is why they set the goal of life as the complete removal of miseries, hence achieving bliss. The eminent speaker in the 4th lecture of season 2 of this ongoing series on the 11th August 2022 was eminent psychologist Dr. Rakhi Roy.

The Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of MAKAUT, Prof. (Dr.) Saikat Maitra was very delighted to deliberate the inaugural speech in the second session of this lecture series. He said that, "sorrow, depression and joy are integral part of our life. However, to transform sorrow and depression to joy is the ultimate way to achieve happiness in life".

As our life moves ahead, it may happen that our cognition moves backward, although not intended. This happens due to experiencing sorrow and depression. Sometimes we are unaware of the negative things we subsume within us during moving forward in life. But the key to leading a healthy life is having a healthy mind. Thus, it becomes necessary for us to know what keeps us healthy, both mentally and physically. Buddha told that the root of sorrow is desire. As we grow our desire increases. We should try to love ourselves and think that we are happy and content. We should follow certain disciplines so that we can stay away from the negatives in life. We should routinely do some physical exercise in the morning after waking up. This gives mental strength. After a day's work we can engage in recreational activities to be lively and healthy. We have a hormone called Endorphins in our body which is released during pleasurable activities. If we are stressed there is a lack of endorphins that may put us at an increased risk of health issues such as depression and mood swings. We should always have a positive outlook toward every difficulty we face. Then only we can avoid sorrow and depression.

The session concluded with  Mr. Subhabrata Roychowdhury, Advisor, School Connect Division, MAKAUT offering the vote of thanks on behalf of the University.
